Over here at D. Jones, we loved seeing the fashion from the 84th Academy Awards last sunday. Wardrobe consultant Brittany Nickolyn chose her favorite ensembles here. Do you agree?
Bow ties were definitely the trend at the Oscars. Carl the seat filler was an eye catcher at his 59th Academy Awards. He was fit with a baby blue wide lapeled suit with navy trim and a matching baby blue bow tie. His fringed shirt and collar were definitely suiting, considering the nature of his outspoken suit.
These three gentlemen all have bow ties as well. However, the first gentlemen is wearing a notch lapel with a satin finish. The notch lapel is a bit more conservative than a peak lapel, which is what the second gentleman is wearing. He is wearing a peak lapel with a satin finish unbuttoned. The gentleman to the far right is wearing a shawl collar, which we saw a ton of last awards season. A shawl collar is completely rounded with no distinct edges. Typically when someone rocks a shawl lapel, it is darker than the usual midnight blue suit/tux. In this case, he is wearing a solid black tux with a bow tie and black buttons on his shirt that stand out significantly, like the gentlemen to the far left.
Brad and Angelina went the traditional route in matching black attire. Brad rocked a bow tie and black tux. His jacket was a peak lapel with a satin finish. He also had piped pocketing, which gives a tux, or any suit, a very nice and clean finish. His one-button jacket is essential for a tux. He paired his tux with a pair of conservative yet edgy black shoes with his pants lying at a full break.
Christopher Plummer is wearing a solid velvet midnight blue suit witha matching blue tie. His jacket is one button and has a light color of trim around his lapels all the way down and also around the pockets. This really makes the blue velvet pop.
Finally, check out our own D. Jones client and star of Bravo TV's Most Eligible Dallas Matt Nordgren! Matt met the Dalai Lama at an Oscar watching party. We're happy to see Matt was wearing D. Jones attire.
So what are your thoughts? Who do you think was best-dressed at this year's Academy Awards?
